The ride to Wooly Hollow. We left after I got home from work. The wind was absolutely horrible. We did do a couple of rides fully loaded, but not with winds over 20 mph like they were this day. We only had 24 miles to ride and it took us about three hours. I kept telling myself, "It's not a race." We did get there and had camp set up before dark. I was relieved!
Saturday we rode to the town of Greenbrier. Had some Taco Bell and went to a grocery store to get a couple of yummy steaks. The total trip was about sixteen miles. That night, after having our yummy steaks that were cooked to perfection by Anthony over an open fire, there was a star gazing party in the park. I got to view Orion's Nebula, Jupiter's bands and moons. It was pretty cool.
Sunday morning the temperature fell out. We packed up and started for home. Of course, the wind had changed direction and now we had a head wind that was worse than Friday. Yeah wind! I couldn't believe it. To make it even worse, it started to rain as soon as we left the parking lot. Yeah, rain! I do have to say, riding in the rain wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. We made it home after stopping at Subway for lunch. Got a little cold, but still had a great ride.
As for our first bike camping weekend, it was a total success! All of our camping gear worked great. Cycling gear performed great, although I forgot my helmet cover. Most important, Anthony and I did something new together. I believe it brought us closer together, and we will return to Wooly Hollow. Can't wait till our next outing.
